PRESIDENT RECEIVES UN’S FAO DIRECTOR-GENERAL

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj Thursday received the Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) Jose Graziano da Silvia. The President noted that this second visit of the Director-General to Mongolia since his receiving of the office demonstrates the great importance attached by him to the cooperation between Mongolia and FAO. Mr da Silvia thanked Mongolia’s leader for accepting his request to meet, and expressed a commitment to further promotion of mutual cooperation with Mongolia. The 31st session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific was successfully held in Hanoi, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on March 2012, and the chairmanship of the 32nd Session of the Conference has been handed over to Mongolia, he said. President Elbegdorj thanked FAO for its efforts to improve Mongolia’s agricultural sector and for its timely and efficient emergency assistance during dzud disaster (dzud is a Mongolian term for a severe winter in which large number of livestock die being unable to graze and sometimes due to the cold). After expressing a gratitude to Mongolia for its support and cooperation with the FAO, Mr Graziano da Silvia complemented the Mongolian pristine nature and uncontaminated soil and noted those are primarily important for agricultural development of the nation. After this, the dignitaries talked about food security in agricultural development and possibilities to export food stuffs. They noted the need of establishment of a representative office of FAO in Mongolia to facilitate latter’s supports to Mongolia’s contribution to the regional food security by accrediting quality of its organic products, and by exporting them.
