SEAG 2015 - Indonesia grabs three gold medal in rowing
Singapore, June 11 (Antara)- Indonesia's rowing team grabbed three gold medals in the first day of the rowing competition at the South East Asian (SEA) Games 2015 being held at the Marina Channel, Singapore, on Thursday.
"We will climb up in the medal tally on the last day on Sunday (June 14). We missed the target of winning four gold medals today and just got three medals," Chairman of the Indonesian Rowing Sport Association (PODSI) Achmad Sutjipto remarked.
The three gold medals were respectively won by Maryam Makdalena Daimoi in the women's 500-meter lightweight single event, Memo in the men's 500-meter single sculls event, and Denri Maulidzar Al Ghiffari, Muhad Yakin, Rendi Syuhada Anugrah, and Mochamad Ali Darta Lakiki in the men's 500-meter lightweight four event.
Maryam Makdalena won the gold in 1:44.29.
Indonesia has set a target of winning a total of 13 gold medals in the rowing competition at the games.
"Vietnam and Indonesia are quite equally matched in the rowing competition. Arief and Ihram missed the target to win the men's 500-meter lightweight double sculls event," Sutjipto noted.
Vietnam was the dominant force on the first day of the rowing competition on Thursday morning at the Marina Channel, winning four out of the eight gold medals on offer in the 500-meter races.
