Hill tribe people pay respects to late Thai King

BANGKOK, December 14 (TNA) - Hill tribe people from five northern provinces who have benefited from royal projects have travelled to pay their respects to late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej before his royal urn at Bangkok's Grand Palace to express their profound gratitude to late His Majesty the King's dedications and efforts to create sustainable jobs for hill tribe people. After their arrival in Bangkok, a large number of people from about 10 tribes from Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son and Phayao, who left their homes on mountains on December 13, queued outside the Grand Palace before dawn on Wednesday and was the first batch of people to pay respects to the late beloved and revered Thai monarch once the Grand Palace was opened at 5am as usual. To express their great gratitude to the late beloved and revered Thai King’s contributions to help them grow temperate economic crops in substitution for opium poppies, the more than 1,700 hill tribe people and officials from royal projects also brought with them produce from their plantations for the Bureau of the Royal Household to prepare food for the general public who are coming and waiting at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground to pay their respects to late His Majesty the King. Meanwhile, MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), a most established Thai media firm running Thai News Agency (TNA), Modernine TV and MCOT Radio Networks, and allies, is organizing a grand exhibition on royal activities of late His Majesty the King at the Grand Hall of Thammasat University, Phra Chan Campus, during December 4, 2016-January 31, 2017. Visitors are welcome to write down their intentions on doing good deeds in gold Bodhi leaf-shaped plates to place on a Bodhi tree which will later be used to cast the Buddha images to be later distributed to schools across the country to inculcate students on morality.
