Police seize drugs in Thai South
CHUMPHON, THAILAND, March 1 (TNA) - Local police have nabbed four men and seized 500 kilograms of marijuana and more than 13,000 methamphetamine pills in two separate cases in the Thai South.
The police and Governor of the southern Chumphon Province Narong Ponla-iad announced the arrest at a joint press conference on Wednesday.
In the first case, the local police stopped a truck, registered in the farther southern Trang Province, for search at a checkpoint in Chumphon's Phatiew District and seized 500 bundles of marijuana, weighing 500 kilograms and worth 25 million baht.
Two men who were arrested for questioning said they were taking the drug from Kalasin Province in the Thai Northeast en route to Songkhla Province in the Thai Far South.
Both men were then charged with having the type 5 narcotic in their possession for selling.
In another case, a 23-year-old man, riding on a motorcycle without a license plate, was arrested at a police checkpoint in Chumphon's provincial seat.
Local police found 5,900 methamphetamine pills and a pistol in his possession and confiscated them.
The man confessed that he was on his way to put the drug at a roadside meeting point.
After the questioning, the police then nabbed another man at a hut in Chumphon's Muang District and found 7,640 meth pills buried underground nearby.
Confessing he was hired by someone from Chiang Rai Province in the Thai North, the second man told the police that he had hidden the drug for delivery to buyers. (TNA)
