UTTC:Thai economy is likely to grow by 4.2-4.6% in 2018

BANGKOK, April 27 (TNA) - The Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce's Center for Economic and Business Forecasting has projected that the Thai economy should grow by 4.2-4.6 per cent year-on-year in 2018. The center's director, Thanawat Phonvichai, told journalists of the forecast figures on April 26, saying that local elections, believed to be held in the second half of this year, should, among other factors, boost the national economic growth this year. Thanawat proposed, however, that the Thai government implement measures to create more jobs, along with stimulating and spreading out investment projects to provincial areas for the sake of more income distribution in order to further spur the national economic expansion. The senior economist, meanwhile, assessed that people's spending during the upcoming National Workers' Day 2018 should total about 2.19 billion baht, a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase and the highest since 2010. Thailand's National Workers' Day falls on every May 1, coinciding the International Workers' Day, also known as the May Day. (TNA)
