Buddhists make merits on Asanha Bucha Day

BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) - Buddhists made merits and prayed for their good life on the occasion of the Asanha Bucha Day on July 27. At Wat Phraram 9 Kanchanaphisek in Bangkok, a huge number of Buddhists gathered to give alms, dried food, products for monks and Buddhist Lent candles. There, Phra Ratchawinai Sunthorn, assistant abbot of the Buddhist temple, taught on moderation and impermanence. The teachings recalled what Lord Buddha had taught to his first five disciples and one of them, Kaundinya, was enlightened and became the first Buddhist monk. In Surin province, people gave alms and dried food to 120 monks who either rode elephants or walked at the monument of the first provincial governor, Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Changwang. Donations gathered there will be delivered to victims of the Xe Pian Xe Namnoy dam collapse in Laos. (TNA)
