Thai Film Festival In M'sia To Promote Cultural Understanding

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) – The second Thai Film Festival in Malaysia 2019 will further promote cultural understanding and people-to-people contact between the two countries, says Thai Ambassador to Malaysia Narong Sasitorn (second right).
He said the second film festival was held in response to the high positive feedback in 2017.
“Movies are more than entertainment. Through movies we can learn so many things, it helps us appreciate and understand the diversity of cultures and values.
“I hope through these movies, our friends in Malaysia will get to know more about Thailand, our culture, people and society,” Narong told reporters after the festival's launch, here, Tuesday.
Seven Thai films will be featured during the festival's run from March 21-27. They are Bikeman (comedy), Premika (horror/comedy), Homestay (drama, fantasy, thriller), 2,215 (documentary), The Promise (horror), App War (comedy, drama, romance), and The Pool (thriller).
All the films will screen at GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, GSC 1Utama, GSC Mid Valley and GSC Gurney Plaza Penang, free of charge.
As a special treat for Malaysians during this year’s film festival, Narong said a reception with Bikeman’s leading actor Pachara Chirathivat and actress Sananthachat Thanapatpisal as well as its director Prueksa Amaruji will be organised on March 23 at GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
2,215 and Homestay have recently won awards at the 28th Thailand National Film Association Awards Ceremony.
2,215, winner of Best Documentary Feature and Best Original Song, is based on the true story of a famous Thai rock singer Artiwara Kongmalai, who dedicated himself to a 55-day continuous run in 2017 from Betong, Yala in the south to Mae Sai of Chiang Rai in the north to raise 1.4 billion baht for hospitals in need of medical equipment.
Homestay, a fantasy thriller about a wandering spirit given a temporary body as a reward from heaven, won for Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects. (photoBERNAMA)
