ASLI Tournament in Saudi Arabia to Draw Prominent International Golfers

Riyadh, February 13, 2024, SPA -- The 5th edition of the Aramco Saudi Ladies International (ASLI), a professional golf tournament on the Ladies European Tour (LET) presented by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which will be held at the Riyadh Golf Club from February 15 to 18, will be attended by several prominent international players, such as Lexi Thompson, Carlota Ciganda, and Trichat Cheenglab.
The event is considered a breakthrough in international golf tournaments, with prizes amounting to $5 million.
In last year's tournament, Lydia Ko, who was competing with Thompson, won the ASLI tournament.
American golf player Thompson is known as a strong competitor who can perform under pressure, which put her in the spotlight at an early age of 12, when she became the youngest player to compete in the US Women's Open Golf Championship. This will make her seek the winner title in Riyadh's tournament and her third victory in the LET.
Thompson stressed that ASLI tournament is a significant step that helps advance this sport not only in Saudi Arabia but on a global scale; she expressed her delight at "partaking in the event that defends equality in golf prizes”.
Solheim Cup star Ciganda recorded a T3 (tied for third) in the KPMG Women's Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Championship and achieved victory to bring the Solheim Cup title back home in Spain.
In October, Ciganda led her team to victory in the Aramco Team Series (ATS) presented by PIF and is now looking to add the first ASLI tournament win to her impressive collection, which includes winning the individual title at the ATS Florida tournament.
Focusing on achieving more in 2024, Ciganda said: “Riyadh Golf Club holds a special place in my heart, especially after I led my team to victory in the Aramco Team Series. Now, returning to this field, I am keen to channel the same energy and my goal is to achieve another victory.”
Also joining the tournament is the emerging Thai star Trichat Cheenglab, after making a name for herself in LET in her first season of the tour last year. The Race to Costa del Sol champion and the Rookie of 2023 will challenge the world's best player in her first event at ASLI tournament.
Trichat Cheenglab, the 2023 LET Order of Merit winner, said: “Joining the tournament is an honor, and I am eager to compete for the first time in this tournament, which is a prestigious event with a prize fund that pushes the sport forward. I am here to leave my mark, learn from the best, and contribute to the vibrant fabric of ladies' golf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
