Amal Abu Zeid: Russia-U.S. Talks Impact Middle East Dynamics

Beirut, March 4 – Amal Abu Zeid, advisor to the former president of Lebanon and former member of parliament, participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the international agency Sputnik, where he examined the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the Arab world.
Speaking at the event, Abu Zeid emphasized that relations between Russia and the United States exert a profound influence on the political and economic landscape of the Middle East. “Representatives of Russia and the U.S. are meeting in Turkey and Saudi Arabia not only to seek consensus on resolving the Ukraine conflict but also to address a range of critical issues, including the Palestinian question in the Middle East. These meetings indicate that regional conflicts and Syria’s future role on the global stage are central to the negotiation process,” he stated. He further noted that Lebanon, as part of the Arab world, is closely monitoring the outcome of these dialogues, given their potential impact on the regional balance of power. Stressing the need for enhanced international cooperation, he underscored the importance of finding long-term solutions to the pressing challenges facing the region.
Beyond political considerations, the discussion also covered the conflict’s implications for Palestine and Syria, as well as its broader effects on the region’s economy, energy markets, and security.
The event took place against the backdrop of the holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on March 1. This period serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue and peaceful coexistence among nations, particularly amid the complexities of today’s international challenges.
