Thai King and Queen Embark on First State Visit Abroad to Bhutan
THIMPHU, April 25 (TNA) - His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida began the first state visit abroad to Bhutan on Friday to reinforce long-standing bilateral relations.
The four-day trip, at the invitation of Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, emphasizes shared Buddhist heritage and close royal and people-to-people links.
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand were received by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan before traveling to Thimphu.
In the afternoon, Their Majesties proceeded to Tashichho Dzong for an official welcome, featuring a guard of honor and a viewing of a parade and cultural performances at Tendrelthang, followed by a state banquet at Dechencholing Palace.
A key event on Saturday includes a joint prayer ceremony with 74 monks from Thailand and Bhutan at the Buddha Dordenma statue. In the afternoon, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen will proceed to the Dechencholing Royal Project to observe an exhibition showcasing the cooperation between Thailand's Royal Project Foundation and relevant Bhutanese agencies.
Later in their visit, Their Majesties will explore Bhutan's culture and development, including visits to Lingkana Palace, the Thimphu market, and Dungkar Dzong in Paro. They will also tour the Royal Academy and learn about the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project.
Their Majesties departed Bangkok on Friday morning and are scheduled to return on Monday evening, concluding a visit aimed at strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Thailand and Bhutan.
