HM King issues message marking World Press Freedom Day
Manama, May 2 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a royal message to mark World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3.
His Majesty expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of opinion and expression and supporting the press in its constructive national role. His Majesty described journalism as a cornerstone of Bahrain’s comprehensive development process and highlighted its role in raising awareness and documenting national achievements and events. His Majesty also underscored the credibility and professionalism of journalism in Bahrain.
His Majesty commended the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for its annual observance of World Press Freedom Day. His Majesty noted the growing use of modern technologies across all sectors, including journalism, and underlined the sector’s ability to adapt while upholding professional standards and values. His Majesty also lauded the strong cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and UNESCO in advancing shared humanitarian goals.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for Bahrain’s national press, emphasising its active contribution to sustainable development. His Majesty noted the commitment of the press corps to the values of journalism and its role in raising awareness and promoting coexistence. His Majesty also underscored the legacy of Bahraini journalists across generations and their role in consolidating national identity.
His Majesty thanked His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for honouring members of the press corps on Bahrain Press Day, observed annually on May 7, and for recognising outstanding journalistic contributions through the Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism. His Majesty also commended the government’s efforts, led by His Royal Highness, to utilise and integrate modern technologies across various sectors.
His Majesty expressed pride in the advancement of Bahrain’s national press in adopting advancements in digital media. His Majesty lauded journalists and opinion writers for their ability to adapt to evolving professional practices while maintaining credibility and objectivity.
His Majesty also underlined the efforts of the Ministry of Information to advance national media, support young Bahraini media professionals, modernise media infrastructure, and deliver high-quality content that reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing development and keeps pace with the latest advancements.
Furthermore, His Majesty congratulated the Bahrain Journalists Association on its 25th anniversary. His Majesty expressed appreciation for its efforts and initiatives to advance national journalism and enhance its engagement with regional and international media unions and associations in support of Bahraini media’s standing.
