Diriyah Celebrates Saudi Culture with 'Terhal': A Theatrical Tale of a Nation

Diriyah, August 5, 2025, SPA -- The second edition of the performance “Terhal” kicked off on Monday evening at the Mayadeen site in Diriyah Governorate. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the show will run until August 25, drawing a large audience and broad engagement with its artistic scenes that narrate the story of a nation through live visual and musical storytelling.
Terhal is the first-of-its-kind Saudi theatrical performance, combining elements of nature with modern stage technologies to deliver an innovative showcase inspired by the Kingdom’s national heritage. It delves into Saudi identity through the gripping story of Saad, a young Saudi who embarks on a journey across the Kingdom’s regions in search of himself and his roots, envisioning a future he shapes with his own hands, carrying the legacy of his ancestors and the drive of ambition.
The show draws inspiration from the Kingdom’s remarkable landscapes, blending them with contemporary lighting and visual effects, along with scenes inspired by musical heritage, performing arts, handicrafts, traditional attire, and authentic culinary traditions. The performance also features immersive visual content, cultural projections, sensory and audio effects, and thrilling acrobatic acts staged both on the ground and in the air, accompanied by equestrian displays and traditional installations reflecting the spirit of Saudi Arabia’s natural environment.
This second edition builds on the artistic and public success of its inaugural run in 2023, which marked a milestone in Saudi theatrical productions through its creative approach, cultural content, and the visual integration of stage performance and technology.
