Foreign Minister commends Bahrain’s diplomatic approach, strategic partnership with UN

Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): On the occasion of United Nations Day, celebrated this year under the theme "United Nations at 80: Let’s Build Our Future Together," Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to maintaining its longstanding and constructive cooperation with the United Nations. He emphasised the Kingdom’s active role in multilateral efforts to promote peace and security, protect human rights, and advance sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda and the "Pact for the Future."

Dr. Al Zayani commended the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in strengthening Bahrain’s cooperation and strategic partnership with the United Nations, in support of the international community’s aspirations for global security, peace, and sustainable prosperity.

The minister expressed pride in the coincidence of the 80th anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter with Bahrain’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, for the second time in its history, and its presidency of the upcoming GCC Summit in December. He said that this reflects Bahrain’s prominent regional and international role and the international community’s confidence in its foreign policy, which is based on understanding, dialogue, and human solidarity, as well as its support for resolving conflicts through peaceful means in accordance with international law and collective responses to security and humanitarian challenges.

Dr. Al Zayani highlighted the participation of His Majesty the King in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, in support of and appreciation for the efforts made by Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, in achieving the agreement to end the war in Gaza, with the support of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the Republic of Türkiye.

The agreement includes historic steps towards establishing peace, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, and reconstruction, paving the way for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights to establish an independent state based on the two-state solution. This aligns with the royal initiatives aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region and providing educational and health services to those affected by conflicts.

The minister highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in line with the UN’s objectives, through promoting international cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals, education, women and youth empowerment, digital transformation, and humanitarian service. He also noted Bahrain’s support for the leading role of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance (KHGC) in spreading the culture of peace and human fraternity, the establishment of the International Day for Living Together in Peace, and the continuation of the King Hamad Award for Peaceful Coexistence. He further commended the contributions of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) in providing relief and development assistance to affected communities worldwide.

Dr. Al Zayani noted the importance of the international community’s support for the initiatives of His Majesty the King regarding strengthening Arab and international cooperation in fintech, innovation, and digital transformation, adopting an international convention to criminalise hate speech based on religion, sect, or race, and rejecting incitement to extremism and terrorism. He also noted the call made by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to develop the work of the UN across all its bodies, including the Security Council, and the financial and health organisations, as well as adopting an international treaty to regulate and govern the development of artificial intelligence. These contribute to building more effective, just, and sustainable global security, economic, and legislative systems.

The minister underscored Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United Nations within the framework of the Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Development (2025–2029), signed with twenty-one UN agencies, to achieve shared humanitarian, developmental, and environmental goals. He commended the efforts of António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, and Annalena Baerbock, President of the UN General Assembly, in enhancing the effectiveness of multilateral action.

Dr. Al Zayani thanked the national diplomatic and administrative cadres working in the ministry and Bahrain’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad for their active participation as part of "Team Bahrain." He commended their representation of the Kingdom’s message and values, in line with Bahrain’s Gulf, Arab, and Islamic identity, and its commitment to strengthening partnerships with brotherly and friendly countries and the international community, reflecting the Kingdom’s prominent regional and global presence and its pivotal role in supporting peace, security, and global prosperity.
