Bishkek, Dec. 5, 2025. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan is facing climate threats and moving towards green economy, World Bank's Country Climate and Development Report says.
The event was aimed at discussing the impacts of climate change in Kyrgyzstan, risks and opportunities for economic development, as well as presenting a roadmap for the transition to climate-resilient, low-carbon development. At the event, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev outlined strategic measures to strengthen Kyrgyzstan's climate resilience.
"Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country directly exposed to climate change. Our task is to ensure sustainable development through sustainable agriculture, efficient use of water, the launch of new energy projects and a green economy. This report will help us make the right decisions," he said.
As noted in the report, the country's depletion of water resources, melting glaciers, drought and extreme precipitation threaten economic growth, especially in agriculture and infrastructure. To address these issues, the Cabinet of Ministers is taking measures to modernize irrigation, support climate-resilient crops and livestock, and use energy more efficiently.
Kyrgyzstan is implementing a "green economy" program by 2029, aiming to build a sustainable, secure, and prosperous future by integrating the public and private sectors.
The program will ensure the country's climate resilience and economic growth through energy, hydropower, solar panels, and the rational use of water resources.
