Iraq Reaffirms Commitment to Modernizing Trade as Overland Transport Sees Significant Growth

Baghdad / NINA /- Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed that the notable increase in trade volume, transportation activity, and regional and international exchange through Iraq’s land-road network reflects the country’s commitment to modernizing the trade sector and adopting international standards and practices.

Al-Sudani, according to a statement from his media office, praised the efforts of government bodies and the relevant ministries following the significant growth achieved in international land-based trade crossing Iraqi territory, as documented by the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

He added that this growth is clear evidence of Iraq’s continued progress in completing major strategic projects, foremost among them the Development Road project. He also highlighted the increasing benefits of implementing the International Road Transport (TIR) customs transit system, as well as the role of the Border Ports Authority in activating the necessary systems and facilitations in cooperation with the IRU.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of government agencies and institutions continuing their efforts in modernization, automation, and digital transformation, to ensure Iraq fully assumes its vital role in global trade, contributing to local development, job creation, and the enhancement of the non-oil economy./ End
