Al-Sudani, U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Discuss Regional Developments and Iraq’s Stability

Baghdad / NINA /- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received on Friday the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, to discuss bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, as well as broader regional developments and ways to shield Iraq from their repercussions.

During the meeting, Barrack conveyed the perspective of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the current situation in the region, highlighting Iraq’s pivotal role in promoting stability and advancing regional development.

For his part, Al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq’s national leadership remains committed to prioritizing the country’s supreme interests and safeguarding the rights of the Iraqi people, along with the strategic interests for which Iraqis have made significant sacrifices. He emphasized that Iraq’s sovereignty and stability across all sectors are not merely domestic considerations, but fundamental pillars of regional balance.

The discussions also covered potential solutions to regional challenges, stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomatic channels over escalation.
