SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday it has
confirmed the safety of three missing South Koreans staying at a hotel in Haiti,
one day after the Caribbean nation was hit by a powerful earthquake.
"We found that three Koreans staying at a hotel safely went to the Dominican
Republic," a ministry official said, adding that one Korean businessman,
identified only by his surname Suh, is still missing.
After a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, three Koreans who had
been staying at a hotel that collapsed after the quake and one person who was
doing business there had remained missing.
The foreign ministry added it was informed that two more Koreans who had a
clothes business in Vietnam were missing in Haiti, but later it confirmed their
safety.
The ministry has figured out the whereabouts of about 70 South Korean residents
and businesspeople in Haiti, but the safety of Suh has yet to be confirmed.
