Imported diesel cars surpass 20 pct of total import sales

SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- Sales of imported diesel-fuel cars accounted for more
than 20 percent of total import sales in South Korea last year as consumers
increasingly opted for diesel vehicles, industry data showed Thursday.
Last year, sales of imported diesel cars stood at 13,665 units, accounting for
22.4 percent of the market, according to data by the Korea Automobile Importers &
Distributors Association.
Volkswagen's Golf TDI 2.0 model topped the 2009 sales list of imported diesel
cars with 1,361 units sold, the data showed.
Total sales of imported cars in South Korea fell 1.1 percent last year from a
year ago, amid weakened consumption caused by a prolonged economic slump, the
association said previously.
