Discrimination still rife, say female workers
SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- Most female workers in South Korea believe they are
being discriminated against, a survey revealed Thursday.
The poll of 1,623 professional women conducted by job search portal Job Korea
concluded that 71.4 percent of respondents think they have less chance of
promotion than men.
The respondents who said their promotions took longer than their male
counterparts of equivalent capabilities accounted for 40.4 percent, while 38.3
percent said it was difficult for women to get promoted to high levels.
The survey also showed that the bearing and raising of children weighs heavily on
female workers.
Some 55 percent of female workers felt unspoken pressure when they took maternity
leave, while 15.8 percent said they felt pressured to leave their job.
Those who said they were forced to quit or disadvantaged after they took
maternity leave accounted for 8.6 percent.
