RUPIAH STRENGTHENS 15 POINTS AGAINST US DOLLAR

Jakarta, Jan. 14 (ANTARA) - The rupiah strengthened 14 points against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday morning.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,155-Rp9,165 per US dollar, up 15 points from Rp9,170-Rp9,180 at the market's close a day earlier.

The local unit might continue to move upward and reach the level of Rp9,100 per US dollar as foreign funds in bigger amount flew into the domestic market, said Treasury Division Chief of Bank NISP Tbk, Suriyanto Chang.
"We are optimistic that the rupiah will strengthen again in the afternoon trading and might approach the level of Rp9,100 per US dollar," he said.
