JUSUF KALLA ATTENDS HOUSE HEARING ON BANK CENTURY

Jakarta, Jan 14 (ANTARA) - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended a hearing with the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee here on Thursday.

Kalla came to the House of Representatives (DPR) building in the company of among others former industry minister Fahmi Idris and one of Golkar Party's young cadres, Yudhi Chrisnandi.

Dozens of television cameramen and photo journalists jostled with each other to take pictures of Kalla when he arrived in the hall where the hearing was to take place.
The journalists, allowed to follow the committee proceedings from a balcony, shouted at the former vice president to turn to look at them. Kalla complied and waved his hand.

In the previous couple of days the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee had summoned former Bank Indonesia (central bank) governor Boediono, who is currently vice president and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.

The House of Representatives set up the committee following pressures from many quarters who suspect that the government`s decision to inject Rp6.7 trillion into ailing Bank Century was illegal.
