PRESIDENT: DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND 100-DAY PROGRAM

Jakarta, Jan 14 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has said all parties should not misunderstand the first 100-day program and interpret is as a measurement to evaluate government's performance in the next five years.

"If we hear the comment of some people, we should be able to explain frankly that it is not true to use the first 100-day program as a measurement to evaluate the government performance in the next five years, because I have heard some statements saying that the program is unable to make the people prosper," the president said at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The head of state said the judgment that in 100 days the government would be able to make the people prosper was incorrect.

He said even himself, Vice President Boediono, and some of cabinet minister never made a statement or promise that in the first 100 days the government would be able to create people's prosperity.

"The government's first 100-day program is a stepping stone to work even better in the next five years," the president said.

President Yudhoyono chaired the cabinet meeting to
evaluate progress in the implementation of the government's first 100-days programs.

"We have two more weeks to complete the first 100-days programs so we have to make an evaluation of the progress made up to this week," President Yudhoyono said in his opening remarks at the meeting.

The head of state explained that the evaluation of the government's first 100-days program was necessary to know to what extent the targets had been achieved.

"It is important for us to understand the first 100-days programs, and I hope the people at large will also understand that it is a starting point for programs for the next five years," he said.

He added that the evaluation was made to know to what extent the first 100-days programs had been accomplished.

"Let us evaluate how much of the programs we have carried out, how much we have not yet achieved, and why," the president said.***
