Seoul shares trade 0.71 pct higher in late morning

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.71 percent higher late
Friday morning as foreign and institutional investors snapped up shares of tech
and heavy industries on robust earnings outlooks, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index advanced 11.91 points to 1,697.68
as of 11:20 a.m.
A better-than-expected earnings report from Intel Corp. pulled tech shares up on
the Seoul bourse. Market heavyweight Samsung Electronics gained 1.45 percent and
Hynix Semiconductor rose 3.54 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,123.80 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., down 2.80 won from Thursday's close
