Two foreign cadets to train in S. Korean naval academy

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- Two foreign cadets from Vietnam and Kazakhstan will be
training in the South Korean Naval Academy for four years in accordance with
government-level agreements to exchange military trainees, the navy said Friday.

The two cadets -- Khairbayev Daniyar from Kazakhstan and Dang The Mien from
Vietnam -- will be training alongside 160 South Koreans, beginning with a
five-week drill before they are officially admitted to the academy on Feb. 19,
according to a navy press release.
Under the Seoul defense ministry's agreement with Vietnam and Kazakhstan, the
South Korean Naval Academy began to receive exchange trainees in 2008. There are
now a total of four foreign cadets in the naval academy, including the two
freshmen.
"I am proud and happy to be training in a country with a powerful navy,"
Khairbayev Daniyar was quoted as saying by the navy.
Dang The Mien said he "will make contribution to the ties between Korea and
Vietnam" after graduation in four years time.
The two cadets, selected as exchange students by the navies of their countries,
came to Korea in August last year, taking Korean language courses and adjusting
to the country.
