Seoul shares open higher on Wall street gains

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Friday
as investor sentiment was boosted by overnight gains on Wall street, analysts
said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 7.66 points, or
0.45 percent, to 1,693.43 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
On Thursday, U.S. stock markets closed higher as investors grabbed tech shares
ahead of Intel Corp.'s earnings release. The Dow Jones industrial average rose
0.28 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 0.38 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,121.95 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m.,
down 0.95 won from Thursday's close.
