16 more South Koreans evacuated from Haiti

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- Some 16 South Koreans residing in Haiti have evacuated
to a safe region nearby after a massive earthquake hit the country earlier this
week, a Korean Embassy official in the Dominican Republic said Friday.

The individuals, who were working for the local clothing firm Willbes, have
safely arrived in the city of Barahona, Dominican Republic, the embassy said,
bringing the total number of South Koreans safely evacuated from the quake-hit
country to 37.
A 7.0 mega quake hit Haiti Wednesday, affecting nations around the world
including South Korea, which later confirmed that about 70 of its nationals in
the country have been reported safe.
As many as 100,000 people are anticipated to have died from the quake.
