EU ALLOTS OVER € 10 MLN FOR FISHERIES SECTOR STRATEGY IN YEMEN
SANA', A, Jan.15 (Saba) - The European Union has allocated € 10.6 million for implementation of the national strategy of fisheries sector in Yemen.
The main objectives of the strategy are to increase the amount of fish production by 10 percent annually until the end of 2025 , raise the value of exports , meet the needs of coasts from the infrastructure projects ,establish an information system and database information for the sector and find an integral relationship with the various economic sectors.
Minister of Fisheries Mohamed Shamlan told Saba that the EU recently announced allocating this grant to finance the different phases of the strategy, the most important of which are collection of information and date of the fisheries sector, preparation of the referential terms and the strategy implementation phase.
Shamlan said that the ministry has already completed the first phase of the strategy represented in preparing the referential terms, including the necessary priorities to promote the fisheries sector.
The referential terms also included identifying systems of fish production and farming and marketing and setting up an investment plan to highlight the investment opportunities available in the fisheries sector.
He indicated that the second phase includes preparing plans, programs and modern mechanisms to regulate the work of institutions and facilities concerned with the fisheries sector, while the third phase includes implementation of the strategy on the ground.
Shamlan affirmed the importance of the strategy in maximizing the economic, social and food returns of the fisheries sector thorough the optimum and sustainable utilization from the fishery products; by using the advanced techniques in stages of fishing, production and export.
The strategy would ensure the preservation of fisheries wealth from waste and pillage through creating a real system of control in coordination with all authorities and controlling production and applying an effective modern control system through use of modern systems and geographic information, Shamlan explained.
