Results of food security evaluation in Yemen reviewed

SANA'A, Jan.16 (Saba)-The
technical committee in charge of preparing a national strategy for food security
reviewed here
on Saturday results of the assessment of the International Food Policy Research
Institute (IFPRI) and the World Food Programme (WFP) on the current condition of
food security
in Yemen.
In the meeting, the IFPRI's experts presented a brief on the technical details of
the analytical method adopted by the institute to assess the reality of food
security depending
on the results of household budget survey and the same method adopted by the WFP in
implementation of the general survey of food security in 2009.
The committee also dealt with a number of indexes adopted in the evaluation,
especially with regard to the efficiency of food at the level of rural and urban
areas.
Regarding children and women, the IFPRI and WFP agreed that the ratio of the people
suffering from food poverty in Yemen has upped to about 32 per cent or a third of
the
population.
For his part, Head of the IFPRI's team presented the general frame of the national
strategy for food security, highlighting the most important challenges which
overcoming
them may form key accesses for resolving the problem of food security in the country.
The presentation was followed by extensive discussions by members of the committee
and participants in the meeting on the components presented in the national
strategy draft
for food security.
