EMBASSY STILL CANNOT CONFIRM HAMBALI`S TRIAL

New York, Jan 17 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Embassy in the US still cannot confirm whether Bali bombing terror suspect Hambali alias Riduan Isamuddin will be tried at a civil court in Washington as reported by the US media.

Spokesman for the embassy Gustanto said on Saturday the embassy had yet to receive information from the US government on Hambali's trial.

"The US government always tells the Indonesian embassy they will inform us at the very first chance if there has been decision on Hambali," he said.

"We are convinced they will inform us shortly after they have made a decision," he said.
Hambali who is suspected of planning the 2002 Bali nightclub bombing that killed 202 people has been detained at the Guantanamo Bay prison since 2006. He was arrested in Thailand in August 2003.

The US government has yet to decide whether Hambali will be categorized as an enemy combatant or ordinary prisoner.

Neither has the US government decided what to do following President Barack Obama's decision to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

The US media reported earlier Hambali is likely to be tried at a civil court instead of at a military tribunal.

But the US Justice Department said it is still undecided about the trial.***
