TYPHOON SWEEPS TWO VILLAGES IN CILACAP ON SUNDAY

Cilacap, Central Java, Indonesia, Jan 17 (ANTARA) - A typhoon struck Padangsari village, Cilacap district, on Sunday at 04.00 pm west Indonesia standard time (WIB).

This is the second strike on the village this month with the first typhoon attacking the area last January 6, leaving two houses heavily damaged and another five lightly.

"Recent data say two houses had been heavily damaged and another five lightly," Mustangin, Padangsari Villages chief said, adding that there might be more damaged houses as his staff were still further considering material loss caused by the disaster.

The Sunday (Jan 17) typhoon also swept Kutasari village, Cipari subdistrict, Cilacap. Cipari subdistrict chief Warsono said his staff were still calculating the damage caused by the typhoon.

"Up till now, three houses had been slightly damaged," he said.

Earlier, a typhoon also swept through Ujungmanik village in Cilacap district, Central Java, on Saturday (Jan 16) at around 4.30 p.m., causing the collapse of six houses, 31 heavily damaged and 162 others slightly.

The Saturday typhoon also hit neighboring Bringkeng village, causing one house to cave in and leaving 65 others heavily and lightly damaged.***
