Hyundai Motor unveils revamped Sonata
SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top automaker,
unveiled Monday a roomier, more powerful version of its flagship Sonata mid-size
sedan to better compete with Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. at home.
The revamped Sonata is equipped with a 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection
engine, which produces 201 horsepower at its peak, the company said in a
statement.
"The Sonata 2.4 GDi will compete with the Camry of Toyota and the Accord of
Honda," the statement said.
The revamped Sonata is priced between 28.66 million won (US$25,412) and 29.92
million won in South Korea, it said.
Last week, Hyundai said it is targeting capturing 52 percent of the domestic
market this year, compared with 50.7 percent last year.
In a statement, Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun said the Korean auto
market will have "very different conditions" from last year due to competition
with Japanese rivals.
