CENTURY INQUIRY COMMITTEE TO SUMMON EIGHT ECONOMIC EXPERTS

Jakarta, Jan 18 (ANTARA) - House Bank Century Inquiry Committee chairman Idrus Marham said on Monday that the committee would summon eight economic experts to share their analyses and opinions about the Bank Century case.

Among the eight experts would be Kwik Kian Gie (banking analyst), Erman Rajagukguk (banking law professor), Rizal Ramli (economist), Christianto Wibisono (economist) and Ichsanuddin Noorsy (economist).

"The committee will hear the eight experts in turns starting Wednesday (Jan 20)," Idrus said adding that the committeee would also re-summon key witnesses for the case and confront their information at the same time.

During a session with the House Century Inquiry Committee last January 14, Jusuf Kalla as former vice president said he was not involved in the process that led to the decision to bail out the troubled Century Bank. He also said he had never received a report on the controversial bailout until November 25, 2008.

Kalla also admitted he had ordered the chief of police to arrest Century Bank's owner soon after Boediono, then the Central Bank Governor, refused to report Tantular to the police.

"He refused to report Tantular to the police on the basis that there was not enough legal grounds. That's why, I called the police chief and ordered him to arrest Robert," Kalla said.

In an earlier session, the committee grilled Finance Minister Sri Mulyani who then said she had reported the bailout policy to Jusuf Kalla before November 25, 2008, through a short text message (SMS).

Boediono, at a separate committee hearing, said he did order central bank officials to prepare and submit reports to the police on November 25, 2008, and later files from the bank for use in the prosecution of Robert Tantular.

The now vice president said that he had already conveyed to then vice president Jusuf Kalla that Robert Tantular should be arrested.

"I have never had any doubt in supporting actions against Robert Tantular or anyone linked to the Century Bank case," Boediono said
