Daewoo Heavy aims to win over 10 tln won in new orders this year

SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Yonhap) -- Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South Korea's leading power equipment maker, aims to win new orders worth more than 10 trillion won (US$8.88 billion) this year on rising demand for power facilities, the head of the company said Tuesday.

Park Jee-won said in a company newsletter that Doosan Heavy set the target on
expectations for rising demand from India, China and other countries.
In 2008, Doosan Heavy clinched 8.3 trillion won worth of new orders. In the first
nine months of last year, the company secured 5.48 trillion won worth of new
orders.
In December, Doosan Heavy, Korea Electric Power Corp., and other South Korean
firms won a $20 billion contract to build four nuclear plants in the United Arab
Emirates.
A consortium including Doosan Heavy is also expected to win nuclear power
facility orders from Turkey worth some 2 trillion-4 trillion won, according to
industrial sources.
