S. Korean golfer Choi to donate prize money to Haiti victims
SEOUL, Jan 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean golfer Choi Kyoung-ju has decided to
donate US$23,100, his prize money at last week's Sony Open, to help the victims
of earthquake-devastated Haiti, his foundation here said Tuesday.
Choi, who has earned seven PGA titles, finished 39th at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
"I heard the terrible disaster struck Haiti while I was playing my season opener.
I was very sad," said Choi through a statement released by KJ Choi Foundation.
"My donation is small and weak but I am happy that I can participate in the
contributions."
The 40-year-old veteran golfer established the charity foundation named after
himself in 2007 to help orphans and young golfers.
As hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed or injured in
last Tuesday's quake, governments and celebrities throughout the world are
raising donations for emergency relief in the Caribbean country.
