NATIONAL CAR SALES IN 2009 DROP

Jakarta, Jan 19 (ANTARA) - Car sales in Indonesia dropped 20 percent in 2009 to 486,061 from 607,805 in 2008, according to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industry (Gaikindo) on Tuesday.

Car sales dropped each month in 2009 compared to mothly sales in 2008, it said.

Sales rose only in the past two months namely in November and December 2009, surpassing sales in the same period in 2008. Totally however sales dropped by 20 percent in the year compared to 2008.

Toyota and Daihatsu cars dominated national car sales, followed by Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Honda.
