Students, police clash at Osmania varsity campus

Hyderabad, Jan 20 (PTI) Violent clashes broke out
between police and students of Osmania University in the south
Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday when they were
prevented from carrying in a procession the body of a student,
who allegedly committed suicide due to delay in formation of a
separate Telangana state.
Students pelted stones on policemen in the varsity
campus when they stopped the demonstrators from taking the
body of 23-year-old Venugopal Reddy to Gun Park near the
Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
Police cane-charged students and fired in the air
besides using tear gas shells to disperse the angry crowd.
Several students and policemen were injured in the
clash. Some mediapersons were also hurt during the clashes.
Reddy, a MCA student, had set himself ablaze at the OU
campus on Tuesday after being apparently depressed over the
delay in formation of separate Telangana state. (MORE) PTI SJR
