SEOUL -- A preemptive strike would be the only way for South Korea to defend
itself if it were to confirm that North Korea had clear intentions of launching a
nuclear strike, Seoul's chief of defense said Wednesday.
"We would have to strike (North Korea) right away if we detected a clear
intention to attack (South Korea) with nuclear weapons," Defense Minister Kim

LG Display swings to profit in Q4 on strong demand, price hike
SEOU -- LG Display Co., the world's second-largest flat panel maker, said
Wednesday that it swung back into the black in the final quarter of last year
thanks to strong demand for flat-screen TVs and panel price hikes.
Net profit reached 478 billion won (US$420 million) in the October-December
period, compared with a loss of 684 billion won a year earlier, the company said
in a regulatory filing.

Gov't reports 2 suspected foot-and-mouth disease cases
SEOUL -- The government reported two more suspected cases of foot-and-mouth
disease (FMD) Wednesday, as quarantine workers scrambled to stem its spread.
Owners of two dairy farms in Pocheon and Dangjin who were raising a total of 171
cows reported FMD symptoms earlier in the day, the farm ministry said.
