S. Korea's rescue squad recovers 32 bodies in Haiti

SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- A group of South Korean rescue workers undertaking
relief operation in earthquake-devastated Haiti has excavated 32 bodies from the
ruins of the country's capital, Port-au-Prince, relief authorities here said
Thursday.

The 21-man squad has unearthed and removed 32 bodies around the buildings of the
central bank and a hotel in the city along with a Brazilian relief team, at a
request of the United Nations, said the National Emergency Management Agency.
Reports say that the wife of U.N.'s deputy commander is believed to be buried
inside the collapsed hotel.
Korean rescue workers arrived in Haiti on Sunday and began to provide various
support efforts, ranging from search and rescue works to medical services, using
rescue dogs, digital endoscopes and other rescue equipment to find those buried
in the debris of buildings, the agency said.
As the United Nations and the Haiti government decided they have little
possibility to find more survivors in the debris and they will soon begin to
remove the debris of collapsed buildings, Korean rescue team will wrap up the
operation on Friday and return to Seoul on Monday, it added.
