SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's GS Group said Thursday it is aiming for
50 trillion won (US$44 billion) in sales this year, up 10 percent from a year
earlier, and 2.3 trillion won in investment.
"We will strive to seek a new growth engine this year," Huh Chang-soo, chairman

GS Group will focus on the energy, distribution and construction sectors this
year, and plans to expand its overseas presence, Huh said.
The group will spend 1.2 trillion won on its energy business, including the
construction of a third heavy oil upgrading unit, which converts heavy oil into
profitable transportation oil. The group started work on the plant in June 2008.
GS Group will invest 900 billion won into the retail sector and 200 billion in
the construction sector.
The group plans to increase its new employment to 2,400 recruits this year, up 10
percent from 2,200 recruits a year ago.
