Hyundai Heavy clinches order for wind power generators from Pakistan

SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's leading
shipbuilder, has clinched a deal to provide 30 wind power generators to Pakistan,
a state-run trade promotion body said Thursday.

The deal calls for Hyundai Heavy, along with the state-run Korea Southern Power
Co., to build the facilities with a total generation capacity of 50 megawatts in
Pakistan as part of a project under the Pakistani government's Alternative Energy
Development Board, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) said.
The Hyundai-led consortium is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with
the Pakistani side soon to provide the 30 wind power generators of 1.65 megawatts
each, KOTRA said.
Construction of the wind power generators, worth an estimated 60 billion won
(US$52.65 million) to 80 billion won, is set to start next year.
The Pakistani government launched the project in 2006 to generate wind power of
818 megawatts for the country's seven provincial and administrative regions.
