LG Electronics seeks foothold in U.S. kitchen appliance market

By Lee Youkyung
SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. said Thursday it
will begin offering built-in kitchen appliances in the U.S. starting in April as
part of efforts to gain a head start in the world's largest market for kitchen
electronics.
To that end, LG signed an agreement with U.S. firm Viking Range Inc. in Las Vegas
on Wednesday to use the company's retail network in the U.S. and collaborate on
the sale of built-in kitchen appliances, LG said in a statement.
LG will release a studio series model in the second quarter that will be
available to U.S. consumers through the retail networks of the Greenwood,
Massachusetts-based kitchen appliance manufacturer.
LG is targeting 1 trillion won (US$879 million) in sales in 2014, it added. The
global market for built-in kitchen appliances is estimated at $40 billion with
the U.S. accounting for about a quarter, LG said.
