Samsung C&T-led consortium wins US$6 bln wind, solar power order
SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Yonhap) -- Samsung C&T Corp., a South Korean trading company, said Friday it has won a US$6 billion order to build wind and solar power clusters in Canada.
Along with the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., Samsung C&T will build wind
and solar power farms in Ontario, Canada's most populous province, which will
have a combined power-generating capacity of 2.5 gigawatts by 2016.
The capacity is equivalent to 4 percent of Ontario's total electricity
consumption, according to Samsung C&T.
Korea Electric Power will design electricity transmission and other facilities,
it said.
The operations include wind turbines with a capacity of as much as 2,000
megawatts, and solar power facilities that will generate up to 500 megawatts.
The contract is Korea Electric Power's second overseas power plant order after
securing a $20 billion contract in December last year to build atomic generators
in the United Arab Emirates.
