KEPCO lays off 147 in second round of job cuts
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Yonhap) -- Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), South Korea's
state-run power company, cut 147 jobs via an early retirement program for
employees who have worked there for 20 years or longer, the company said Friday.
KEPCO plans to phase out 2,420 jobs, or 11.1 percent of its 21,743 workers, by
2012. The restructuring is part of the government's plan to slash 19,000 workers,
or 13 percent of the combined payrolls of 69 state-run companies and
institutions, from between 2011 and 2012.
KEPCO cut 273 jobs last year in its first early retirement program.
