PRESIDENT INSPECTS PASPAMPRES

Jakarta, Jan 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inspected the readiness of his guards (Paspampres) in Jakarta Friday morning.

In the company of Deputy Defence Minister Lt Gen Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Military (TNI) Chief Gen Djoko Santoso, the President started his inspection by observing the Paspampres units including the Armoured Vehicles Detachment, Communications and Electronic Detachment, Cavalry Detachment, Equipment Detachment, and Health Detachment.

The Head of State also inspected the operational vehicles of Paspampres, and observed a demonstration of the agility and skills of Paspampres personnel, including their self-defence skills, like karate, judo and aikido.

Not only that, President Yudhoyono also observed a demonstration of Paspampres women's corps riding motorcycles in a motorcade.

On the occasion the head of state was also scheduled to watch his guards engaged in an exercise at a shooting range.

The presidential inspection was also attended by Navy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Agus Suhartono, Air Force Chief of Staff Vice Marshal Imam Sufaat, Deputy Army Chief of Staff Lt Gen Suryo Prabowo, and Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo.
