NO REASON TO IMPEACH YUDHOYONO : DEMOCRAT EXECUTIVE

Jakarta, Jan 22 (ANTARA) - An associate chairman of the ruling Democrat Party said here on Friday that there were not enough reasons to impeach President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Anas Urbaningrum said President Yudhoyono met with the chiefs of high state institutions on Thursday not because he was afraid of or worried about possible impeachment.

"Not at all, because there was indeed no reason for it. Those who wish to impeach him are day dreaming," he said.

He said one must not see the meeting negatively because consultations among chiefs of high state institutions were common and good.

"It is not for cooptation and being coopted. It is neither for sterilizing control functions and tradition of checks and balances in our democracy. The meeting is exactly aimed at strengthening the tradition of constitutionalism in Indonesia and that is the strong basis of democracy," he said.

He said President Yudhoyono wished all parties would be constitutionalist and principles-oriented.

"So the meeting happened not because of fear or worries. There is no reason for worrying," he said.
