KPK GRILLS ANGGODO ABOUT FORMER CHIEF ANTASARI AZHAR

Jakarta, Jan 22 (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication (KPK) investigators on Friday grilled busineesman Anggodo Widjojo about former KPK chief Antasari Azhar's role in the bribery attempt for which Anggodo is being investigated.

Anggodo is currently in the KPK's custody for ellegedly trying to obstruct investigations into a corruption case involving his elder brother, fugitive businessman Anggoro Widjojo. He is suspected of having tried to bribe KPK officials to stop their investigation into his brother's case.

"Anggodo had to answer 12 questions, including on how Antasari was able to meet Anggoro in Singapore," Anggodo's lawyer, Thomson Situmeang, told reporters at the KPK building.

The KPK investigators also asked Anggodo about the chronology of Antasari's meeting with Anggoro in Singapore and with Ari Muladi, the intermediary in the attempted bribery , in Malang (East Java), Thomson said.
Anggodo told the KPK investigators Antasari met Anggoro at the former's request. But he (Anggodo) himself did not take part in the meeting at the Shangrilla Hotel although he was in the hotel.

The KPK investigators also wanted to know more about Antasari's meeting with Ari Muladi in Malang.

"Antasari's meeting with Ari Muladi happened after Muladi had already received part of the bribe money," Anggodo claimed, according to Thomson.

Antasari met Anggoro in Singapore after his encounter with Ari Muladi in Malang and after the latter had received part of the Rp 5.1 billion Anggoro was prepared to pay to KPK officials in exchange for the shelving of his case.
