POLICE SEIZE ONE TON OF MARIJUANA IN SERANG

Serang, Jan 23 (ANTARA) - Banten and Metro Jaya police on Saturday raided a house at Taman Ciruas Permai housing complex in Serang district, Banten, and seized at least one ton of marijuana.

Some 24 bags of marijuana with a total weight of about one ton, kept in a 3x4 meter room of a house at Taman Ciruas Permai, were seized by the police at 9.30 on Saturday morning in a raid.

The police raided the house after a tip-off from a man, arrested with 30 kilograms of marijuana at Kampung Rambutan bus terminal earlier at 7.30 in the morning.

"The seizure of about one ton of marijuana was the result of a development from a man we arrested at 7.30 a.m. in Kampung Rambutan," Metro Jaya Police's narcotic director Senior Commissioner Anjan Pramuka Putra said after inspecting the location with Banten police chief Brig Gen Rumiah.

Anjan said the confiscated marijuana was allegedly transported by a truck from Aceh to be sold in Jakarta and Bali.

"The seized marijuana can be sold in Jakarta at a price of about Rp1.5 billion while in Aceh it is about Rp500 million only," Anjan said, adding that following the seizure, the police had nabbed six suspects, identified by their initials as AR, SOP, JK, SU, ZUL, and SM.
