RI HEALTH MINISTER LEADS SESSION OF WHO EXECUTIVE BOARD CONFERENCE

London, Jan 23 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih in her capacity as vice chairperson of the 126th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) executive board led a session of the meeting in Geneva recently.

The Indonesian minister led a session discussing a number of issues related to global health situation, control and eradication of diseases including viral hepatitis, leishmaniasis, measles, and smallpox, the first secretary of the Indonesian permanent representative office in Geneva, Achsanul Habib, said in a statement on Saturday.

At the session, delegates of WHO member states endorsed a resolution on leishmaniasis, measles and smallpox, the statement said.

They agreed to postpone discussion on viral hepatitis to the following day so that they would have adequate time to finalize a draft resolution proposed by Brazil.

The statement said the health minister played a role in finalizing draft resolutions discussed at the meeting. The resolutions endorsed at the meeting represented the interests of Indonesia and other developing nations in general.

The WHO director general and delegates lauded the role of the Indonesian health minister who had managed to lead the session efficiently and effectively so that discussions on many topics on the agenda were completed on time.***
