Four Koreans investigated for alleged SAT cheating scheme

SEOUL, Jan. 23 (Yonhap) -- Four people, including an instructor at a private
institute, were being questioned Saturday on allegations of stealing a copy of
the U.S.-based Scholastic Aptitude Test and using it as part of a cheating
scheme, police said.
The suspects, who sat for the SAT at a high school in Gyeonggi Province earlier
Saturday, allegedly tore off different sections of the test that when combined
make up the entire examination. They then ran off with the materials after the
test was over, officers at the Suseo Police Station said.
Police suspect the illegally appropriated copy was sent to Korean students
preparing to take the SAT in the United States.
One of the suspects, a teacher at an SAT prep school in southern Seoul, was
quoted by police as saying, "I brought the test copy to use as instruction
material when teaching my students at the institute."
Earlier this week, another lecturer at a private institute was booked for
investigation after allegedly appropriating a copy of the exam from a Thai
student who took the SAT in Bangkok last January. ETS runs test centers
worldwide.
