MAN DETONATES TWO BOMBS AT AMRAN MOSQUE; 12 HURT

AMRAN, Jan. 23 (Saba) - A man has detonated two grenade bombs at a group of people when leaving a mosque in Amran province in northern Yemen in what seems retaliation for the murder of the attacker's mother, the Interior Ministry's Media Bureau said on Saturday.

12 worshipers were injured in the incident that took place when the worshipers left the mosque in the district of Silan Algharbi after Friday prayers, the website reported citing police in the province. The injured were rushed to a hospital.

Muhammad Hussein Qiran, the attacker, escaped to another village in the district after the attack but he was arrested and put in custody, police said.

Qiran, 35, told interrogators the attack came in retaliation for his mother's murder 18 years ago in the district, police said, adding that he probably suffered from a mental illness.

An investigation into the attack is continuing.
